I actually won this night in Busta House in a raffle, which they had very kindly donated.
As usual, everything was just perfect. We were in the Vementry room,... read more which has a lovely sea view. The bed was lovely and comfortable, and massive lol.
Our evening meal was excellent! We had the prawns for a starter, my husband had the haddock, which was HUGE, and I had the steak, which was cooked exactly as I like it. The Bailey's cheesecake was to die for.
Full Scottish breakfast set us up for the day.
Full marks for the staff. Everyone was polite, attentive, helpful, and smiling.
Hope we get to come back soon xx

This was a return two-night visit after our first one in February 2021 and if anything service was even better this time if that were possible. Staff at Busta House... read more are very well trained and extremely attentive. Our room this time (Muckle Roe) was unexpectedly large and very comfortable with excellent heating and a very comfortable bed. The menu and food served were nicely varied and always of a high quality. Service was very quick and efficient at every mealtime and it was easy to see why so many locals had booked to dine here each night of our stay. The building has a lovely atmosphere and great character.

The meals were fairly simple but very well done and nothing we asked for seemed to be too much. Being taken through to dinner after enjoying one of their many, many scotch selections in front of the open fire make each evening feel like a special occasion. The young people working at Busta House couldn’t have been nicer.

The service on check in and during the stay, and in the nice restaurant, was FANTASTIC. We quickly latched on to Bradley, one of the nicest and hardest working people I've seen in a long time. He was friendly, professional, helpful with suggestions on our ferry trips and walks on Shetland. The property is an historic one, so they have a rustic character and is very charming, as is the garden. Its location is fabulous for touring the whole mainland. We'll be back! From the guest log we can tell that there were a lot of satisfied customers like us.

We ate here twice during our stay on Muckle Roe after popping in for tea and coffee while waiting for our cottage, the staff are so welcoming, great service delicious... read more coffee and shortbread, the meals both nights were delicious, home made and plentiful. The long room is lovely for a pre dinner drink or coffee and the service is excellent they even recommended a place for us to visit as it was sunny when we first arrived we took the advice and had a lovely afternoon at Eshaness.

We have visited Busta House several times since we moved up to live on Shetland in 2017, and on every occasion we have been delighted with the atmosphere of the... read more place, the delicious meals and the quality of service, so our son and daughter-in-law decided to hold their wedding there.
Right from the outset we were very impressed by the professional yet friendly manner in which all the details and requirements were taken, and arrangements were made to get the ball rolling. During the months leading up to the wedding, we spoke to several people who had either held their own wedding there, or had been invited as guests, and every single person said "You`ll have nothing to worry about, everything will be perfect, they will take care of everything!"
And they were absolutely right. The friendly, efficient yet relaxed manner of service, the impressive quality of the meals, drinks and surroundings; nothing was too much trouble to the staff, right down to helping us carry luggage and wedding paraphernalia from our cars up to our rooms.
We cannot praise the whole team at Busta House highly enough. A huge `Thank You`to you all.

Spent 2 nights at the Busta House at the end of our annual trip to Shetland. Never stayed at the Busta House before but have heard many good things about... read more it. It lived up to our expectations. The staff could not have been more welcoming and there were plenty of them. The room was comfortable and spacious and we had a good nights sleep both nights. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty and the best hotel coffee we have ever had. Good selection of cereals, really enjoyed the hot smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and the bannocks were delicious. We ate in the hotel one night and enjoyed pre and post drinks in the long room. It's a fantastic room to sample some of the vast selection of whiskies and/or the local Shetland gin. Food was great and local produce where possible. Only criticism was that my glass of table wine was disappointing and didn't match the standard of everything else. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.
Have already booked again for next year!

The bedroom, though slightly on the small side, was comfortable with a well equipped bathroom. Great location for exploring the west mainland of Shetland.

So many things have changed permanently... read more since lockdowns with so many comforting extras removed. But not at Busta House. We enjoyed two evening meals at Busta House this year and found the welcome as friendly, the food as good and the service as professional as ever. Just got home after 2 weeks at the Busta House. This was our second stay at the Busta, and we had such a wonderful time that the third is already... read more booked. The staff are super-welcoming, friendly, and *nothing* is too much trouble - they go out of their way to ensure your day from the magnificent Busta breakfast to the delicious evening meal runs perfectly. There is no greater joy than to return from a day's coastal walking to drinks and the aroma and warmth of a peat fire in the comfort of the Long Room. A further treat awaits after dining from the splendid menu (who can forget the southern-fried Stenbiter!), choosing from the enormous range of whiskies on offer. The house has a fascinating history, in a spectacular location. We can't wait to return and hope to continue for many years to come.

Anyone larger or with mobility issues might struggle with the gap of only 1ft between the toilet and the accessible part of the bath / shower. Bathroom was recently refitted and immaculate but just a trifle snug.

The hotel is a maze of corridors - at first - but is so charming and tastefully decorated. All of the staff were mindful of our dietary requirements and went out of their way to ensure allergies/tolerances were addressed. The floors are mostly wooden which is what you would expect for a building dating back to the 1500s!

Room was warm, well appointed and welcoming to arrive to. Staff were amongst the most efficient and attentive we have experienced anywhere. The building is quite historic which adds charm to a visit with interesting rooms and furnishings throughout. Food is excellent from a varied menu with a wide choice at breakfast too including locally sourced Smoked Haddock and Kippers, all delivered efficiently. Good adherence to covid guidelines at this tricky time too. Some renovations were taking place ready for the season but any fallout from this will presumably be cleared up prior to busy times ahead and it didn't impact adversely on our stay. This hotel was quite a distance from Lerwick, but with a beautiful view over the lake. The room at Busta House was smallish, but with good storage, although access to... read more the hanging cupboard was hampered by a trouser press hanging on the inside of the cupboard. The major problem was the shower, which did not produce hot water until the 3rd evening. We complained about it early on the morning of the second day to the staff (who in general were friendly and helpful) promised to look at it, but we think that it was our complaint to our tour company, which triggered action and I was finally able to enjoy a hot shower on the third evening. They gave us the 3rd evening meal “on the house” in recompense. Nice, but I would have rather had a hot shower. The water provided for the bath was not hot enough for my husband to have bath on the first evening, but was on the second evening. I can’t use a bath, because of 2 knee replacements. The standard of the restaurant meals (breakfast and dinner) was generally very good, of excellent value and served in huge portions. I was pleased that the restaurant offered a good choice of smoked fish dishes for breakfast. The COVID precautions were reassuringly thorough

We stayed as part of a walking group, so ate dinner in the library, which was a treat. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Accommodation was varied as one would expect from the age of the building, nevertheless we found our room more than adequate.

Firstly the welcome we received was brilliant, the rooms are well prepared with clean... read more and comfortable beds.
The menu had a wide variety to choose from this also changed daily which i have never stayed at a hotel that does this (nice touch !) the meals we received were well presented and were exceptional. Unfortunately we did not get to meet the kitchen / chef to personally thank them.
Lastly the service from the staff was exceptional, we were greeted firstly from the actual owner of the hotel. The politeness of the staff was amazing, the owner of the busta house should be very pleased and proud with all the staff.

Stayed here for a few days and would fully recommend it as my 'go to' place when in Shetland.
The hotel is full of character being hundreds of years... read more old and a listed building yet it has great WiFi, satellite TV in the rooms and food to die for. There's none of the miniscule portions you get with some restaurants and it's great quality local fayre. Being in Shetland, seafood is a speciality but there are plenty of other options and vegetarian dishes and along with the bar, it’s all at very reasonable prices. The staff couldn’t be more helpful so I’m sure they would do their best to cater for any other dietary requirements.
The rooms are being fully refurbished and are en-suite with numerous power outlets for laptops etc.
I can’t wait to return.

The staff were never too busy to listen to his ideas, and he was very sad to have to leave. In fact, I wish we hadn’t, as there is so much to see and discover in Shetland. Busta House is a hotel which is genuinely friendly to families, and where children have plenty of space to explore, both inside and outside.

An old characterful building in a gorgeous setting next to a quiet loch, I had an enjoyable overnight stay here as part of a group tour of Orkney and Shetland.... read more The young staff were all incredibly warm, friendly and helpful yet still really efficient - oh that all hotels were as well staffed as this! The public rooms in the hotel are in the style of the place as a whole, but clean and well maintained. My room (Bigga) was a quirky one - the sloping floor being its most notable feature! (I tried to put the kettle on the bedside table and it immediately slid off...!) The purposely exposed historical graffiti on the plasterwork was an interesting touch; the wallpaper was clean and looked quite new, but sadly the carpet was in quite poor condition and had also creased up in several places around the room. The bathroom was modern but tiny; the shower was ok. The bed was surprisingly comfortable given the slope! The room overlooks the kitchens so was quite noisy with the window open, and sadly you can't see any of the surrounding area. The Wifi is excellent, really fast, but I couldn't get any phone reception inside the building. The highlight of any stay here, however, is the food - both our dinner and breakfast were superb and the organisation and efficiency of the eating process, given COVID protocols, was amazing (particularly at breakfast). We stayed here for 3 days in July and when we arrived it was sunny and warm, so drinks in the beautiful grounds it was. The Staff here are... read more fantastic and had the COVID Distancing nailed, by being very organised without feeling regimented. Good breakfast and evening meal. The Staff here really look after you and the Service is super, including the new Staff who were being trained. A relaxed atmosphere here which is nicely helped along with the vast whiskey collection. Their packed lunches for our long walks were epic!

Building has an interesting history with the Queen visiting in 1960. However there needs to be internal maintenance as damp patches are evident, worn carpeting, flaking paint etc. Garden pleasant to sit in, providing the midges don't find you! However the long lounge is a lively room to sit in - 7/10
Room - We had a lovely light room of a good size. The bed was comfortable, but again improvements are needed, e.g. sash windows not in working order, carpet worn wallpaper coming off in a few places, electrics somewhat basic - 6/10
Bathroom, probably the worst I have experienced in a hotel. Lighting very poor. Shower fine for people less than 5ft tall! Shower in the bath, but no grab rails to assist getting in and out. No shaver point and the decor pretty dour. Needs modernisation!! - 3/10
Food was good, both evening meals were enjoyable and potions a good size, the breakfast menu had a good choice. 8/10

We have just had an amazing two night stay at Busta and feel thoroughly relaxed and pampered. We had a lovely room with fabulous views out over the garden and... read more sea. It had the most enormous bed which was great for sipping the recommended gunpowder gin in! The staff were unfailingly attentive, helpful and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble. They are a wonderful team who worked hard to make sure everyone is safe. We had really excellent meals from the deliciously opulent smoked salmon and scrambled eggs to a wonderfully tasting char grilled steak. We will definitely be back for more!

That hasn't affected the staffs moral who were friendly, attentive and extremely helpful for the duration of our stay and are a credit to the hotel. The hotel has clearly worked very hard with regards to COVID restrictions and requirements to keep operating and that should be a comfort to anyone visiting as they couldn't do more to try and keep their guests safe. We have both been very impressed with the hotels efforts through the COVID pandemic and wish them all the best for 2021 and beyond.

All staff were very friendly and pleasant and have made us... read more feel safe and welcome right from the beggining when were discussing our stay through messages up to checking in, meal time until the last service at breakfast.
The meal was superb, we both had steaks from the Valentine's menu and they were very good!
The chef went out of his way to accommodate me with Dairy free options which was very much appreciated!
We can't recommend Busta and the staff highly enough!
We will definitely be back.

We visited the Busta House Hotel Restaurant several times during our stay, both for lunch and dinner, and the food was always delicious! Portions were extremely generous and the puddings... read more were lovely too. Staff were super attentive, friendly and organised. I would go so far as to say that this has been the most covid-secure restaurant I have visited, with numerous hand sanitising stations, a one-way system and pagers at the tables.

You can’t get this type of experience anywhere else. The food was absolutely delicious. Well worth the money for the accommodation and the quality of the delicious food. The housekeeping of the rooms was excellent but what really stood out was the standard of customer service from all the staff. Made to feel incredibly welcome with a real can do approach. The meals were first class both breakfasts (wide choice) and the extensive dinner menu.
The attention to Covid 19 safety meant our stay was worry free.

Staff are really friendly and accommodating to every request and are happy to give recommendations on where to go and when.
Covid meant a few things were a bit different to what they would have been, but it didn't affect the enjoyment of our stay at all.
Every time we told anyone we were staying at Busta, they always told us we'd got the best hotel on the island. Have to say, I think we agree!
